"The Dragon" At Deals Gap 2008 Official Thread

Last year was awesome! For anyone who loves to drive cars, it's awesome, like driving on a roller coaster. The only thing out there I can think of that could be better is Nurburgring, and since that's too far away, there's "The Dragon"

I'm going to run down the schedule from last year which seemed to work out awesome. We had lots to do and the driving was spaced out so it seemed to work perfect.

Friday
Afternoon - Arrive in Raliegh, NC.
Evening - Go to the go cart track and then dinner.

Saturday
9am - Start to head out to Ashville, NC.
Lunchtime - Arrive at Ashville, get some food.
Afternoon - Drive the rest of the way out to Deals Gap by taking the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Early Evening - Arrive at hotel and check in, go to Fontana Dam to get group car pictures.
Evening - Have dinner.

Sunday
Before Noon - Head out to The Dragon!

Lunchtime - After a run down and back eat lunch.
Afternoon - Run The Dragon again. After that everyone is on their own, some people had to leave earlier than others to get home.

Costs
Gas - I spent around $300 on gas, for me it was a 2,200 mile round trip. On the highway I did awesome on gas, 30+ mpg, but on the dragon I was killing gas

The gas available at the Dragon was priced normal which was nice in case you needed gas right there.
Food - Plan on eating out every meal since we're stopping at restaurants everywhere.
Hotel - At Deals Gap the hotel was around $90 a night if I remember right. If you just meet us at Ashville then go to the dragon you only have to worry about one night. If you meet us in Raliegh Friday we'll try and work something out.
Stuff - Plan on at least getting a cool sticker or T shirt while you're at the Dragon

There's also photographers along the dragon that take pictures. www.killboy.com had the best shots of our group and charges $5 a picture to download them, definately worth it.

Plan For 2008
So that's the basic schedule, what we need to do now is find a good time for 2008 that will work for most people. We had talked about going in the spring sometime since it's not that far away time wise and it'll be cool out. When we went last time it was a little warm but still nice.

11/25/07 Update - We're going to plan on the weekend of May 30th, May 31st, and June 1st as the official dates.

5/26/08 Update - We're close! Only a couple of days left! Be sure to get everyone's contact info before the trip as we may not be near a computer or the internet every day. Also if you type "deals gap" into google earth you get this...

I spoke with Civicbeater about going this year... It will be the first time going for me...

I have classes till mid may then a short family trip... I'm putting a vote in for May 30,31 and june 1st

Asheville is BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Hopefully no one will ruin my plans and hit me with big redneck vehicles next year, because I wanted to go this year so badly.

Glad to see there's going to be another meet though, I was hoping for that.

EDIT: Note that the big redneck vehicle statement is a reference to my CRX getting hit this year.

You know, I always heard from CRX people that they missed their CRX's once they were gone.. I really really miss mine. I'm seriously considering getting another one asap... After owning one I can't handle seeing CRXs, it makes me sad. Their's a BG28P DX on ebay right now, not in too bad of shape, just needs some TLC. I miss my B16, but I've been watching K20 videos lately, and wow. K20 CRX or bust. I still have my seats, my Teins, rotors, almost everything from my CRX, so in all reality getting another one would be peachy. Sell the Accord? Most likely. The only other car I can see myself driving is a new FG Si. But $$$ is an issue right now.

Keep on the lookout for shells for me, I'd like to take a CRX to deals gap because I smoked the pigs all the time, and noone could EVER NO ONE could touch me in the twisties. I love my Teins, I miss everything.

i was definitely saddened that i couldn't make it up there this year...i love The Carolinas...so i will definitely try to make it this time around, especially with the new suspension

Told Eric already...I got a floating vacation being I am going into work this January shutdown (it's when my job is closed for a week) so I should be able to take it whenever I want. We all just need to talk about a date and then I can see if it will conflict with anything, then I can let you all know for sure if i'm in or not.

I just looked at some weather for that area in May / June and the average temp at that time is around 70 degrees with 80 as the high and 60 as the low. that sounds a lot better than last year
