Good places to look?

I'm getting ready to redo my engine on my 02 civic ex, I'm looking for a good performance engine and transmission to start with and then i want to break down the motor and drop all performance parts into it, so what do yall think would be a good engine to start with, also if yall know any good sites to look on to find some please let me know, thanks.

Re: Good places to look?

Check your local laws before going with a swap. In some states it is illegal (not sure it is illegal or more to do with emissions) to swap a motor from an older year car into a newer one.

With that said I would look into a K20 swap for your 02. Its a good performer and a solid building block wether you want to go all-motor or Boost. You might want to check out H-motors for some swaps. Reputable shop and there are some members who have bought from them with great sucess (sometimes more important than price).

Not sure on the web address, maybe someone else will post it but you should be able to find it on a google search for Hmotors.

GoodLuck !

Have you checked the Federal laws? Typically it is illegal to swap an older motor into a new chassis because of emission equipment not being the same.

a google search came up with this:
"The federal tampering prohibition is contained in section 203(a)(3) of the Clean Air Act (Act), 42
U.S.C. 7522(a)(3). Section 203(a)(3)(A) of the Act prohibits any person from removing or rendering
inoperative any emission control device or element of design installed on or in a motor vehicle or motor
vehicle engine prior to its sale and delivery to an ultimate purchaser and prohibits any person from
knowingly removing or rendering inoperative any such device or element of design after such sale and
delivery, and the causing thereof. The maximum civil penalty for a violation of this section by a
manufacturer or dealer is $25,000; for any other person, $2,500. Section 203(a)(3)(B) of the Act
prohibits any person from manufacturing or selling, or offering to sell, or installing, any part or
component intended for use with, or as part of, any motor vehicle or motor vehicle engine where a
principal effect of the part or component is to bypass, defeat, or render inoperative any device or
element of design installed on or in a motor vehicle or motor vehicle engine, and where the person
knows or should know that such part or component is being offered for sale or is being installed for
such use. The maximum civil penalty for a violation of this section is $2,500."

Of course I have a 95 motor in a 96....

Re: Good places to look?

the way around the federal law as far as removing emissions stuff is to say that it was broken and had to be replaced Cali is the strictest state by far and they let you do motor swaps as long as the motor is from the same year or newer chassis that the car the swap is going into.
