The specially modified Saab 9-3 Viggen showed its stuff once again, this time during the 80th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Piloted by Swedish rallycross racer Per Eklund, the most powerful modified Saab ever claimed victory in the Unlimited Class. Eklund guided the Saab to victory at 14,100 feet, with a personal best time of 11:13.24.
This challenging climb includes 156 turns and no guard rails. According to Eklund, "The road surface was very slippery this year and at times it felt like I was driving on ice, but the Saab engine and the rest of the drivetrain performed perfectly." The all-wheel-drive modified Saab featured a 2.0-liter engine delivering 750 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 545 lb.-ft of torque at 6,500 rpm. Put all this together with a 6-speed transmission, and the 9-3 Viggen's acceleration is in the Formula One class: 0-60 mph in 2.3 seconds.
Pure performance. Pure Saab.

no way a FWD car can do 0-60 in 2.3 seconds. Thats one hella strong AWD system to take such abuse. Think about it, putting 750 horses to the ground that fast to nail such a time is impressive.
I'll still say the Escudo is the tightest car to make its way up Pikes Peak. The big-rig trucks are tight too, amazing watching them tear it up. I like the 2nd gens. tearing it up too.
I've been up Pikes Peak and that shit is nuts, look out the window and you've got a few feet and a pure drop off.
BTW.....wreckless I said the Escudo is tight, got anything in response to that LOL!!!!!! :D

Eklund's advantage in this type of racing lyes in that he is renown for his rallycross abilityes over here at Europe. He have been running highly tuned saab's at closed surcuits for many years and they are all trimmed up too something between 550-800hp. It is the restrictor they have too put in the intake of the turbo who have been the decider of how much hp they get from the machine.
It is because of his special relationship with saab for a good long time who have given him the ability too make this wery special car, but everything in it is old news more or less for him since variable differencials in motion, AWD (Saab), 700 hp 4 banger turbo engine is something that has been used in rallycross for many years. The cars is quite similar too the old group B rally championship cars who where banned from the road rally c. ship just because it was insane too be doing 250km/h at a countryside road, that is what they use in rallycross closed surciuts over here and now at Pikes Peak at yours. :D

the turbo Volvos have some serious potential. a chip for the 850Rs gives them almost 300HP I believe. My friends cousin has a really nice 850R, its got 18 inch Borbert rims, brembo drippled/cross drilled rotors and calipers. With just an intake that car is pretty damn quick.
