I went today and looked at both. 0-60 r6 is a tad quicker. 1/4 the 600rr is a tad faster. Overall i think im goin to go for the R6. I like the black and red flame paint job . R6 IMO looks way better! So i was wondering what is your guys opinions between both??? Honda has a little better deals with loans, but yamaha's arent that bad either.

P.s. IM trying to talk my uncle into a V-rod, but today were goin for the second time to the harley shop b/c they finally got another 03 road king anniversary edition. So i think he is goin to end up gettin that, but damn im hopin for a v-rod. B/c im goin to be able to ride either one.

bro I think you're just saying what you want to hear to get the R6

I don't like the R6 or the R1, and if you get a older carb'd R6 the cbr600rr will OWN you

I don't know what you're reading, but my cycle world ranked the 600rr over the R6 and pretty much every other 600 class bike as far as top speed and 1/4 mile. they got high 10's from it, the R6 runs mid/high 11's

are you looking at new or used? just spend the money a grow some balls and get a man's bike, 900+

yeah the 600RR is the better bike if you ask me, although i read a comparsion test where the R6 came out on top....bettter handeling mabey anyways if i were in the market for a 600ss bike id get a honda

although personaly i dont think its worth buying new because those things deprciate so fast, and if you have little or no experiance riding a 600RR or R6 is a poor choice for a beginer bike. thats why im gonna start looking for a seca II or 500 ninja after college.

I was looking at new. The guy at the shop had this comparison chart. I dont know where it came from, but im pretty sure it came from a good source. It showed the 2003 r6 a tenth of sec faster than the 600rr in the 0-60. and the 600rr a tenth faster in the 1/4. weird. I was talking to a mechanic at the shop also and he rides a 600cbr and he told me when he got to deliver a 600rr that it was a completly different bike! Said that it cremes his cbr. Hmm so i def. know its a good bike.

UPdate: Today My uncle and myself or going back to Harley for the 3rd time to pick up the 100th anniversery Black and silver Road King. $23,000 dayuuuum. But its pretty bad-ass.

your right, that's why I tell everyone to get the 900+ first and just buy one bike. every single person I know who's gotten a 600 has gotten a 900+ within a year. you get used to the 600 and you step up, and if you're looking at new, a 600 is $8000 and a 900+ is $10000, so it's only $2000 more. but if you buy a 600, then pay interest, AND lose on the fact that it's depreciating, now to step up in stead of a 2000 difference it's more like 4-5.

and besides, you're getting ripped, if you're going in with cash you can get a 954 for under 9000 at the dealer here, so if you're looking at 8000 for a R6, don't get raped.

You two are confusing hte hell out of me. i think a 600 is good for me. i will ahve a tough time keepin up with my friends RC51 but ohh well. We'll see, debatin between new and used but uhh if i could find a 750 like what Joad is lookin at i'll go for it. I haven't road the new CBR 600RR but I have rode the new R6 and it is a pretty nice bike but I don't think that I would pick one up though. It is pretty quick but it just looks and feels like a toy and that side pipe is kind of annoying. The new CBR 600RR has the nice new under seat pipe which makes for nicer turns and it just looks like a much more aggresive machine.

I'm gonna go take a look at the new CBR (me and the wifey are looking for a pair for next summer ) and see if I can get one to take for a ride and then I will post back and let you know what I think about the 2 but for now I am going to have to say 600RR.

well im saying it depends on your rider experiance. if you have little or no experance than a 600ss bike like the 600RR or R1 is a very poor choice. those bikes might not be as powerful as liter bikes are, but they are by no means slow and from what ive been told/read/heard from experianced riders they make awful starter bikes

its an uncomfortable seating postion on those things, they have twitchy throttle controls and senstive brakes that are designed so that an experianced rider can tear it up on the street and take it to the track on weekends, ie you use very light/small throttle and brake inputs. plus those things do go preaty fast, i belive the specs on the 600RR are 0-60 in 2.2, mid 10's in the 1/4, and a top speed of 160mph..........

not to mention that all of the bikes in the 600 ss class have flairings that can be expensive to replace if you make a newbie mistake and end up droping the bike(which is also a bad idea and should be avoided if at all possible because there is always a chance you can get traped under the bike)

now granted, ive never ridden, i dont own a bike, ive never taken an MSF course. i cant afford any of that **** right now, but what i have done is my homework. my dad rode a seca II for 10 years, my uncle has a harley......ive talked to enough experianced riders both in person and online to know whats good advice and whats not. and frankly i think a 600 is too much for most beginers. "outgrowing" a bike is a stupid reason to step up. buy a cheap starter bike, beat it up, learn on it for as long as it takes you to build up some decent skills. and then once you feal like your ready to move on go out and get a real bike. its not like there wont be any 600's to buy next year or two years or hell even 10 years from now. and you can pick up a starter bike for dirt cheap. in fact if i were you id just get a dirt bike or a dual sport and ride that for a while, thats suposed to be a great way to build up skills that you can later apply to the street. plus you live in an area where an offroad bike might come in handy from time to time.

i dont though, i dont really know what your skillz are man or what you have or havent done. but i can def tell you this. do your hw before hand, dont be cocky and bite off more than you can chew, thats how you end up dead, and whatever you end up doing please please please get some good gear, a helment, t-shirt, shorts, and sandels will not protect you from road rash, broken bones, severed limbs, internal bleeding, ect ect ect.........get full leathers, riding boods, gloves, and mabey even a spine protector. its gonna be hot as **** in the summer, but its worth it if it protects your ass. look two threads below this one and read about the guy who smashed up his 900 and got some wicked road rash if you dont wanna belive me

bottem line, get some real advice from mature experanced riders. i would go here

www.beginerbikes.com (http://www.beginerbikes.com)

and here, cheack out the forums, thease guys really know there ****

Good Post freak...

Im so confused...I dont know what i want.

Sport bike or Street bike?!??!

I went to Harley today to pick up new pipes for my uncle's bike and the mechanic rides a RC51..And he's sittin there tellin me all the fun he has on it..

I dont know...IF i get a street bike its like i can get a sportster throw goods on it, but the sportster looks a lil too puney for me..and after ridin my uncles bike i dont know if im strong enough to handle a huge bike aaround town all the time.

Seems like a sport bike is light enough to where i can control it..We'll see. The drawback is that my uncle does not at all want to see me on a "rice rocket". We'll see i REALLY WANT a stinkin bike though!!!!

the suzki 650s and ducati monster 600 are awsome looking bikes

It's not so much the weight as it is just the power. A 600cc to a person who has never rode a bike before is hella fast.

that is by far the most ignorent statement you have ever made...

its a GOOD thing to out grow a bike, it means you have mastered basic riding skills and you can move on to somthing bigger and better.

and if you buy used for your first bike you really dont lose any money by doing so. mabey a few hundred when you go to sell it later on.

besides the ducati monster 620i and suzki SV650 are suposed to be a hell of a lot of fun to ride. a 600 standered will keep you entertained for a while, and if it doesnt who cares? you go buy a bigger bike and be gratefull for the experiance you got on the smaller one. my dad kept his yammah seca II for ten years and still got about half of what he payed for it when he sold it. he never outgrew it and he had a blast riding the thing.

people need to realize that you cant just hop onto to your dreambike becuase you can afford to. you need to take the time to build up skills and experiance on somthing smaller so you can transfer that to the bigger bike and not kill yourself with your lack of experiance. its like cars, you cant just go jump into a ferrari when your 16 have that be your first car(this is a good comparision because most 600's have simlar performance to world class sports cars, esp the Super SPort bikes). thats why you start off with a civic DX and work your way up. and i realize that eric prob knows how to ride a bike, but i think he is still better off taking an MSF course and geting a 600 standered as his first bike, OR a small cruiser if he wants one. but your sugestion of geting the biggest, newest bike he can afford is just ignorent and really shows a lack of responsiblity on your part. the last thing the world needs is more stupid squids jacking up insurance rates and giving responsible riders a bad rep.

http://www.mustangmods.com/data/449/sv650.jpg

Heres the ducati, same deal with the flarings

http://www.mustangmods.com/data/449/03monster620ieaction2.jpg

i like the ducati more than the SV650, but id take the suzki over it just because the matiance costs of the ducati are insaine

there both about 6k new.

Well said Timmah ! The MSF course teaches you alot of stuff believe it or not. My friend took that course last year before when he got his motorcycle, and he was telling me what they teach and some of the things he learned. I have had my fair share of bike riding and some of the things that we were discussing about the course I have never even thought about. Needless to say I will be taking that course when my time comes.

If not only will you learn something and be a little safer rider, the course is also good to lower your insurance...ALOT ! There is something to think about.

well now al has rode both bikes (600rr and the r6). im sure he will give ya a nice comparison when he gets a chance. from what he tells me the 600rr is way faster and it fits like a glove, and the handling was incredible. he said best 600 bike.

Ok well Joe has spilled it, I went to drive the 600RR and yes it is sweet. I don't know if it is the best 600 bike as I haven't rode all the new 600's but it is definitely the best 600 bike I have rode by far.

The bike at first glance, wow, it just has that I mean buisness look. Time for a ride, hop on, turn the hat backwards and throw on the sunglasses, turn the key hit the ignition....aahhh she's alive. Smooth, nice exhaust tone I like what's going on so far, discuss a couple things with the sales person, screw it, time for the bike to do some talking.

Lift it up (light) squeeze the clutch, step down on the first gear, give the rev and i'm off. First thing I notice, nice room from my chest to the tank, no worries on smashing your ribs on the tank when going over some bumps. Get to the first stop light, the brake, nice tension, not overly sensative...nice. Light changes and i'm off again, light on the throttle just crusin' it makes you aware there is more there, I get a little piece of open road and dip into the throttle. Response is instant, but not harsh nice and smooth. Ok time to hit some twisties, pulling the bike around hanging curves takes a little effort though it doesn't make it a grueling task. Which is where I have a problem with the R6 as it's easy to throw around and oversteer your corner a bit. The RR is a bit of a stiffer ride over the R6 but isn't uncomfortable.

Overall the best 600cc bike I have rode to date. Power is there, the powerband is seamless, the handling is solid and the ride is comfortable. I would suggest this bike to anyone who is looking for a 600cc sports bike.

I would listen to Timmah about that MSF course as well, they teach you alot of useful things. I don't know how long you have been riding and you may know how to ride really well, if you don't learn anything from the course it still isn't a total waste of time as you will get a nice reduction in your insurance rate with the certification. Insurance companies love to see responsible people and if you commit to passing the course it shows you are a somewhat responsible person so, either way it's not a waste of time. I know for a fact when my time comes (hopefully over the winter but I would love to hold out to see a new 1000RR ) I will be taking that course.

You want to know whats up with them both, well here are just a few things to think about:

The 6 double R runs a faster 1/4th, 0-60, 0-100 than a R6, but flickability the R6 OWNES all 600 class bikes, runs a faster lap time than all 600's by at least 1 second and is the best handling bike you can buy

The 6 Double R runs into the same problem every CBR runs into...FOOT PEGS DRAG under low angle turning due to the low foot pegs. It doesnt inspire the same confidence that a R6 in high speed turning and stability...BOTTOM LINE: Every mag says the R6 ownes the 600 class...

Thank you, class is dismissed :-)

ive been ridin for 3 years, and i recently purchased a 2003 r6. ive ridden both bikes, and i would have to say i am not at all impressed with the 600rr. around the track both bikes are fairly even, the 600rr is a little quicker off the line because it is built to keep the front end on the ground.(very boring) the r6 is much more comfortable, and is a perfect beginners bike, because it is so forgiving.

which bike you buy is really dependant on what you want to do with it. if you plan to buy a bike to take to the track and race alot, then the 600rr is the way to go. but if you want it for anything else then get the r6. it is a 100 times better stunt bike, i can walk mine in 3rd gear with no clutch. plus it is more comfortable and easier to maneuver for driving around town, and long trips.

Black600RR
12-22-2003, 01:43 AM
I own a 600rr and i love it to death ride both bike. The one you feel better on you should get.Accel means nothin for under $200 (new sprockets) you can make eather bike much faster than the other. Personally i find Yamahas not the best built bikes and they usually have the least experinced riders. take it from me you cant go wrong with a Honda or a Suzuki. Yamaha just look cool there not built the best. They have many transmission problems which cost a lot of money. but i mean the 600rr is much more track built. I race my 600rr a lot so all that track stuff put on my bike is worth it to me. Most people just like to Ride around town. I could see where the r6 might be able to do that better. But bike for bike (all around) the R6 cant even touch the 600rr and thats the truth.. But what ever you feel better on is the right one for you

then i guess we know u dont ride. the 2 bikes are virtually neck and neck. there is no way in hell, the 600rr could walk all over the R6. its fine if u have a preference for one bike over the other, but dont say something completely ignorant. just because u like one better.

I been riding bikes, before you could even tie your own shoes.

Look, I base my opinions on personal experience and not what a magazine tells me. I have nothing to lose or gain by saying one is better than the other since I don't own either. I can though tell you, I have ridden both enough to safely say that the 600RR is the all around better bike in my eyes for reasons I have stated in other posts.

I'm am 99.9% sure that if you had an R1 and we were talking about liter bikes you would say that the R1 was the best liter bike out there, which everyone knows is false.

i dont deny that the 600rr is a good bike. but saying that it would walk all over the R6 is just ludicrous. u have your opinion and i have mine. i have ridden both bikes, and i have a much more enjoyable ride on the R6. maybe it has something to do with my stature?? the R6 is definately not for someone who is 6 feet tall. but it is the most suiting bike for me so far.

and no i dont think that the R1 is the best 1000 out there. im not some yamaha junkie. if i had to pick a 1000 it would proly be the suzuki. but if i were gonna buy a 1000 yes it would be the R1, much smaller bike which is better for me.
