by the bike bug i really want one now, at first i was thinking like a honda rebel or nighthawk, but now im leaning towards somthing in the 600cc range as a starter bike. like a kawsaki ninga or yamah seca II. i know honda makes one too i just cant think of the name of it. somthing used, cheap, and fun. the problem is im gonna have to put this off for a few years, like mabey after college im already making a car payment and my insurance is 3k a year on the focus since i totaled the stang so i really dont think i could afford the extra insurance money on a bike, sucks too. id love to make that my primary vehical if i move to richmond in the fall. but the foci still makes the most sense since ill need to haul stuff down there. oh well...mabey i can pick up one like jr or sr year

any of you guys wanna school me on whats out there i know honda makes that badass CBR with the liquid cooled 1100 CC engine in it. and ive been fond of the yammah R6 and R1 since those came out. although none of those are good for a starter bike since i know ill prob drop it or def kill myself on the R1 and CBR oh well, if any of you wanna drool with me/share some good info feal free to

if i were you i'd get an old honda to learn on. you gan get a lot for 500 or less. jap bikes don't hold their value that well so you can get a lot for not much. if it's your first bike there is a real good chance you will lay it down at least once and with an old bike it won't matter. when you're ready to move on and upgrade just give it a good cleaning and sell it for at least what you paid for it. when looking at an older bike (if you do) look close at stuff like rocker cover bolts, clutch cover bolts, headbolts, cylinder stud nuts, etc... any bolt with tool marks means someone has has messed with it. not good! most guys mess stuff up even though they think they mean well. i've owned a couple old bikes and the ones that people messed with are the worst. trust me i'm sure the same rule applies to new bikes but they have just not had enough time to have been messed with. good luck

they have the cbr 1100xx or something like that, but it's a lot bigger so it's just a more comfortable sport bike, but it needs the extra power for the extra weight so it's not really faster.

I still dissagree about getting a 600 first, unless you have a ton of money to spend and don't mind buying a 600 now then a 900+ later once you get used to the 600 and it starts to feel slow

really if you've never riden before, find someone with a dirtbike, and learn how to ride on that. get used to the clutch, shifting and all that on the dirt bike, cause it is a lot going on at once till you get used to it, then you don't even notice that you're shifting anymore, same way it should be with a manual car.

personally I say the honda 929 or 954, lots of smooth power, just shift low till you get brave

lol, they have mad power, but they're smooth, so it's easy to drive slow, well, easy if you hace self control or if a cop is around

honestly, my first time on a cbr600f4i I was as nervous / scared as the first time on my 954. I just kept the revs low till I got used to it, and I know now that a 600 wouldn't feel fast to me, and you have to rev them out to go fast, a 900+ you can shift low and still be moving

but regaurdless, you have to resist the urge to just find top speed untill you've gotten some experience.

Hey Yall oughtta check out Triumph sometime. My brother has a Triumph 955 RS. And that thing is awesome. I am planning to get the Triumph TT600. I have test driven it a couple of times, and I was really impressed with the handling and big brakes. Plus its one of the lightest bikes out there. Triumph also makes Ducati. I'm gonna see how my money situation is gonna turn out after I buy the EVO in December, before I decide to get the TT or not.

You might be right about them just being owned by the same dude. All I know is that down here, all the Triumph dealers sell Ducatis and vice versa. So maybe Ducati just has some stock in Triumph or vice versa. Whatever the case, I think its cool that you own one of each.

there is no afiliation between the two. one is brittish and one italian. the reason you see the two in the same show rooms is they are niche bikes. it's a marketing stratagy to cover the most ground with bikes that only interest a fraction of the population. the reason that the two companies allow this is because they hold almost no market share of the other company. you should stop spouting of at the mouth and KNOW before you speak.
