in my opinion:
b16 (si) is the cheapest
b18 )gsr) is the most hp tq.

both engines have the same amount of aftermarket parts.

I say those two motors cause candymanjl had the gsr motor in his turbo crx and that damn thing moved like a bat out of hell, now he has the b16 and its quick but u can tell its not te same as the gsr motor.

I would go for the B16 for money reasons, you can always upgrade later on and get a B20 bottom end or gs-r bottom end.

go itr engine...its definitely not the cheapest but you get the most pwr and tq...plus there is so many aftermarket parts for it and you can make a itr engine way faster than any other engine...if you do a swap, go all the way or dont do it at all, you'll just waste money

well if u dont care about v-tec an ls motor costs damn near nuthin and has more torque than a b16 and gsr and they're easy to make power, then later you can always get a nice gsr head

that's true, I saw a guy with a B20 motor and crower cams lay down 167hp to the wheels, don't remember the torque but I'm sure it was up there too.

B16. With your hatch, being light and what not, it will be really fast

Get a GSR if yu got the funds, or down form there will be the b16a HYDRO TRANNY! Both are going to run a buck or two, but you will love the power increase and the parts avaiable are endless! <----KEY POINT :-)

I would put my vote out for the B18C. Bester HP and Torque for the money, and mods are all over.

I would say B16A usually, but from what you're saying, you want torque too, and B16A motors aren't near as good on torque, they are top-end motors.

So vote "YES" on B18C!!... man that was lame.

H22! best tq/hp in stock trim! But for the money, drop in a B16 and start building. B18C1's are overrated. Equal money invested in each, the B16 will win.

Who needs VTEC when you got torque?!

And don't even bring an LS/VTEC up....

Who needs VTEC when you got torque?!

There are many swaps suitable for the 92-95 Civic.

One of the most popular would be the B16A2 w/Hydro tranny.
This will give a big increase in torque and horsepower, and yet is still in a reasonable price range.

The next would be a B18C GSR. This will give you a great combination of torque and horsepower increase and probably is one of the more popular swaps from a customer which has done a HYBRID in the past.

Next would be the TYPE R. Costly, and not a hole lot more than the GSR, but more is yet still better.

For the adverage street car owner, the H22 is a little over board with what needs to be done for the swap to work. Though it can be done, and there is a great mount kit to use for such swaps, a few people like to go with a B series over the H.

When someone first as the question, best overall motor for the money for the 92-95 Civic, first thought is the GSR. Though most people love a B16A and are very happy at first, you find them looking for more within about 6 months to a year, and some wishing they just stepped up the extra money from the start and got into the GSR from the beginning.

You can sometime find great deals on full front GSR clips as well. Though you can't use any of the body panels, etc., this way you are getting EVERYTHING you need for the swap, counting the axels, shift linkage, and all the motor mounts. The rest of the parts you would be able to sell off to someone with an INTEGRA and make out ahead.

Sincerely,

Rob G
