I have a 97 Civic DX and I simply want to swap the B16A motor into my car. The shop that I went to, to see how much it would cost told me that it would be around $7000 completely installed with A/C. Is this how much I should expect to pay or am I being had?

HELL NO!! Maybe 7grand if the motor is new and is purchased from the honda dealer. you get a b16 anywhere from 1200 to 2200 shipped dependng on what gen b16 you want. Local shops by me charge anywhere from 500-1000 to swap a motor in. So 7000 is entirely way too much

They told me that it was about 1500 for the motor/trans/ecu. Then about 3500 for parts just to make the thing work. The rest was the labor. why would they say they need 3500 in parts? What parts do you need for a 97 DX?

theres a place up there that is a junkyard for Honda's. they are expensive and its still cheaper than that. 3500 for a used GSR engine

well 7k huh?...theyve gotta be jocking! the engine you want is the b16a2 obd2...you can get them for $2,300 all over the place...this is a direct bolt in, all you need other than that is rear mounts from a 99-00 si...the whole preoject should cost you no more than 3k and thats with installation...

yeah, I aggree with 2trix, you're looking at $2,000 - $2,500 for the swap itself, plus shipping if you can't get one local. then worst case you get place racing mounts which is a couple hundred beans (or the stock mounts from a junkyard). and even if you pay someone to install it, if they have experience, then it won't take them long, so anything more than $500 would be too much.

me in my garage with no lift and I can swap out one motor and put in another in one day. then one more day at the most to wire up everything and the a/c. I've seen guys who know what they're doing and they can do a swap a day no problem.
