View Full Version : Civic vs. Escort vs. Modded Eclipse GS-X

Lately things have been really boring around here - what me having a slow ass car and all - so I went out to the races with my friend's B18C1 Civic. 1994 Civic w/ a stock (well he has a header now) GS-R engine. He also pulled out the wheels, intake, exhaust, etc. - anything he could salvage cuz he crashed his Teg :(

Anyway on to the races. We found some people sitting around and chillin so we decided to join them. There were some really mean sounding V8's prowling around there but more on that later... So basically we meet up with some people my friend knew and they came there with a modded 96 Eclipse GS-X, had exhaust, boost controller, and Blitz BOV (which, btw, sounded awesome) running around 14 psi (maybe more). Then, a guy with a Ford Escort pulls in the lot and goes around asking for someone to run him - ok cool we're game :)

He asks what is done to the car (the civic looks like a POS btw, several deep dents, busted tail light, you get the idea) and my friend replies, "It has a stock Honda engine" (umm sure, I guess it does say Honda Motors on it :p). The race is on. We pick the spot. Civic vs Escort (we didn't know if he had anything, wouldn't tell us). So off we go... (2 am so no cars around)

We get to the racing spot, and OOPS the GS-X decided to join the party too! D-OH! 3 lanes, 3 cars, so you could call us Slow but still Furious :)

Race 1: 25 mph roll, Escort honks, and we're off. We murder the Escort but ahhhh the GS-X! He slowly, slowly pulled 1 & 1/2 cars on us up to about 110 mph, couldn't reel him in :(

Race 2: Same roll, Escort honks, we're off BUT this time my friend shifts later (he has no tach so he's afraid to hit the rev limiter) and the GS-X just couldn't pull on us AT ALL. We were dead even into fourth gear when we had to slow down (and I mean DEAD even). Pretty awesome. Can't wait for my friend to get some NOS :p

Notes: B18C1 (stock) Civic vs Escort (stock) and GS-X (lightly modded)
-> 2 races, both from 25 roll
-> Race 1: GS-X first by 1 & 1/2 cars, Civic second, Escort far back (he doesn't have VTEC or turbo what was he thinking :p)
-> Race 2: GS-X and Civic dead even, Escort far behind, Civic needs a tach

UMMM there is NO way your friend's civic would hang with a modded GSX. IF it had an exhaust(are you referring to a DP, test/midpipe, and cat-back with no cat or just a cat-back?) Also, a BOV isn't really a performance adding mod but whatever. Anyway, seeing as a GSX as a small single turbo they already run 10-11 maybe even 12 psi stock. I am not sure about this so someone on this forum who knows about them help me out. But if the GSX had a full exhaust you would have gotten rapped, plain and simple. My friend has last gen Talon AWD turbo (same car as a GSX). Basically, all the car had was full exhuast no cat, running 20psi, with us porting a few things. And I pull maybe 3 cars on him from a 30 roll to 120. Now mind you, I toasted a 6 speed C5 vette from a 2nd gear roll up into 5th (over 120 MPH) by 2.5+ cars and he had exhaust, intake, and something done to the map sensor. SO my car is no slouch. Basically what I am trying to say is GSXs can be made fast with very little mods.

yeah there quick little cars, but theres no way its bosting 12psi stock. i think its like 6-8psi. no car bosts that much from the factory, otherwise youd have relaibility issues. i think even the new 03 cobra is only like 8psi, and thast a big engine. btw i hope your freand bosting 20psi built his botem end up a little, other wise he may runinto some trouble later on, sounds cool though :p

yeah they boost that much stock dude, its a single small turbo so it has to boost that much to make decent power. I think its actually 10psi. Least thats what my friends last gen Talon is set at now because he's breaking in his clutch. We put on a 1st gen turbo, holy crap his car is fast even at stock boost. We raced from a 3rd gear roll(not a good gear for me) and he stayed right with me until my second turbo came online after the transition and then I walked hard. But I can't wait to see that car at 18psi. Ask wreckless how fast it is, he got a ride in it last night.
Also, yeah he was running 20 on stock internals, crank walked twice though, he's got his engine built a little now though to hold the HP he's putting down. :D

actually it wasn't crank walk just did some nice custom bends to his valves lol. Damn good thing it wasn't crank walk though, that really would have sucked.
and yeah Merkers are tight, friends Dad used to have a modded one. However, a tun up allowing your turbo to run 24 psi huh. You jackass you don't know ****, I HIGHLY doubt the stock turbo can run that psi not to mention the handling isn't superb
