90? CRX vs. 02 1.8T

Well, my friends and I were off to Edgewater last night, when I see this primered CRX up ahead. I figure, WTH, and decide to give it a go. I notice he is running black wheels, BIG exhaust, fully gutted, 3 gauges on the pillar, large Tach, a "Hybrid" badge, and his license plate said "No Mods"
I didn't want any part of it...but my buddies kept begging my to try and race him...so I said fine.
Here is the rundown...my car 02 1.8T Jetta, UP chip, K&N Filter....full interior, 3 people in the car. He was alone. I get on the on ramp, and he was pretty far ahead, so I hit 2nd and fly up on him. I'm in his ass, and I hear him hit it. I stayed with him for about all of 5 seconds. we both kept on it....and I went to the outside of the highway, he stayed on the inside....we kept on it around the turn, I was a car or so behind, hit 4th, and I had to let off, suspension couldn't handle it. He kept on it.

So he slows down, and I eventually catch back up...give him a thumbs up..and we talk for a minute. Cool guy. We talk, and I ask him what he is running...he replies a b20...whatever that is. I'm guessing bolt ons, I don't know his other mods. So, he says for us to run again. I agree. We are at about 55mph I'm in 3rd, I guess he is as well. And then the funny part of the story, he tells me to go ahead....I just laugh, like oh shit, I'm about to get raped. I hit it, and he hits it about a second later, I'm a car ahead of him and he pulls even through 3rd and passes me, and then he misses 4th! Ouch. Thankfully for me, cause he would have killed me.

He gets back next to me, and tells me about his 4th gear problems. So we slow down again, and he leaves, takes off, and let me tell you that car is mean. I was completely owned by this car. Fastest N/A Honda I have ever come across. FWIW, he beat me worse than my friends boosted Si.

yeah, 2.0L non-vtec. thinks it's about 145hp and 140 torque stock, somewhere around that.

that depends..if he had a b20z then yes those are almost correct, but the b20 is the only honda w/ more tq than hp. so it would be switched with what you put. if he had the b20b it would be 126 hp w/ about 130 tq.

Well, he had a "Vtec" head on it apparently...the local guys around here, on a local forum, say his setup is mean!! And I found that out first hand!

Wassup Camuman! I had to get the chip back, couldn't take the stock feel anymore! :D

I hope to find out more about it, when he replies on the forums...still waiting.

LOL...I was having some reliability issues..hard to believe huh :rolleyes: 3 coilpack failures with the chip...but I couldn't go without the power...so I put it back in, swapped n75 valves, and no more surging! More power than before with the "F" valve, now running the "C". I think it would have been closer, had I been alone...and had my spare/back seats out...which I run 75% of the time..just put everything back in some my buddies could roll with me.

If you do the math, using approx. 50lbs = 3.5hp..(that's the formula) I was losing approx. 450lbs...which adds up to about 30hp...that's a big loss...but no excuses, I still think he would have owned me, just not as bad. He even said in our local forum that he thought my car was pretty quick, especially loaded up with weight to go along with the already 3000lbs chassis!! :p :p

I wouldn't mind finding him again...just for kicks.

yeah, weight always kills you guys. that's the only reason my car is quick, not a lot of weight to move :D
