My fiance noticed that one of our Si's revs up to 8500. Has anyone else noticed this? We haven't taken the other one to the track yet. So, we will find out about that one later. This thursday it's on between him and I. I am going to race my fiance heads up at the track. I will have a slight advantage with a CAI. But he may buy one before then and then it's all about the drive. I have been giving him a hard time.

Its actually the weight of the needle that makes it seem like you are reving to 8500. The Si's redline is 8000, but the tach is about 200rpms off so to most people it looks like the redline is at 8200. When I had the SAFC on mine it showed the correct RPM's.

We know that it only makes power up to 7500, but we noticed that one day. I know it is pointless to go that high, but it was only once.

So the 99-00 si's limit is 8000? and why are you useing the S-AFC? Isn't that the boost controller? Also did you say you have the B16a3? 'Cuz if so how do you know about the B16a2? I know they have their base system is the same but peak HP is different, right?Sorry about the mass questions but i think you might justify your knowladge. Other than that it stops at 8200 for me and I dont think the weight of the needle affects it.

the safc is just the fuel adjustment piggy back , the vafc is the same , but allows more adjustment and vtec settigns and the avcr si the boost controller
the b16 red line is 8k , if you went above that nd didnt hit fuel cut, then your needel is off.
my car stock i was revving up to like 9200 or so becuase the tach was soo far off at high rpms, they tend to float i guess . . . due to lack of better terminology.

yeah, especially in the first couple gears, the needle gets momentum on the way up and goes higher than the motor actually is reving, the tach doesn't react as fast as the motor does.

in conspiracy's Si, the s-afc showed the rpm based on the signal the ecu was seeing which was accurate compared to what the needle was displaying. depending what rpm range we were in the needle would be right / above / below the actual rpm.

but his car pulled right to 8k then the fuel cutoff was around 8200. the del sol's are obd I and might have a slightly different redline and ecu cutoff setting, but I don't see it being more than 100-200rpm different if at all.

also, if I'm the car manufacturor and want my motor to last, if I make you think you're reving higher than you really are by designing the tach to always read higher, then you're always reving lower <img src="http://www.clubhonda.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif" alt="Wink" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:;)-->
