Check out teamdelsol.com. That will answer alot of your questions. As far as engine wise:
del Sol s= Civic Dx motor
del Sol si= Civic Ex motor
del Sol Vtec= 99-00 Civic Si motor
Weight wise the sol's are a little chunky with practicly no place to shave weight off. The Tagra top and rear rolling down window makes up for it

well i had my sol in for a front/rear wheel alignment because my camber in the rear was way off. he got all the wheels lined up perfect except the pass rear wheel. he couldnt change the camber at all and he asked me if the car was hit in the rear or anything. i havent been in an accident with it but the tool before me might have been even though he said it wasnt. maybe i have a bent shock or something. i have to take the sol to a frame rack and see if its bent or not. do any of you guys have any opinions on what could be the problem???? and my sol has 101,000 miles on it. should i just get it rebuilt?

Does every del sol have the targa top or is just certain ones. and i hear the SI is decently fast well not fast but a good start. about 130 HP and the Vtec model is 160 HP if i am correct. I saw a Del Sol with a sun roof does that mean it still has the Targa top

well i have an Si model and you are correct about them having around 130hp, its close. its not too bad for how small the car is and im satisfied with mine. the Si are SOHC Vtec with a 1.6l motor. now if i could have found a Vtec model which came with the DOHC Vtec motor that would have been sweet, they come with 160hp. As far as i know all sols came with targa tops. you can get a roof like a targa top thats all glass, but they cost around 700 beans for that and that = too much $$$$$

I am only 15 so have never purchased a car before. I have next to no experience with hands on except for simple repairs I have done on my dads Chevy S10. This girl has a 94 del sol vtec for sale and I am totally interested in it. There is a couple of problems with it though. The first and biggest problem is the tranny makes a weird sound in first gear which is obviously not good. Second being the brakes are almost gone. Third being the body has some scratches and dings in it. Fourth being that one of the interior seat is starting to rip and the side trim has a small tear. Other than that it is in good shape for only having test drivin it and a quick inspection (drives nice). She wants 4500 obo for it and im thinking about 3000 to 3500 considering the repairs it needs. It has 130k on it with minor mods such as a muffler and an intake. First I want to know your opinions from that and what the problem with the tranny could be. Also I want to know if I should go with a B18C1 engine from a GSR and do a whole hybrid. Or should I just get the tranny rebuilt? The motor is pretty nice so being lessexpensive I am leaning 60%/40% on just keeping it. If I do what other parts should I put into it to keep it in good condition? Also I am thinking of ordering the motor from Osakajdmmotors.com, has anyone had any experience with them? Doing the hybrid I feel pretty confident for not doing it before. I have most of tools including an engine hoist. It is my friends. He knows a litte more than me but is a muscle guy owning a 68 Charger. Info and Opinions greatly appreciated.

here it comes hold on. 94 del sol VTEC is a great car. very agile and has good weight distribution. with 130k miles on that b16a i would 1st and FOREMOST read about modding this engine and learn the specs of it. learn how you can tune it via turbocharging, going the non forced induction route of normal aspiration, nitrous oxide injection and also supercharging. these all have their highs and their lows. i personally would try to post up or possibly search about these areas first before thinking and deciding on 1 specific route. with 130k i would suggest using that engine hoist and pulling that motor and tranny out. for the motor if you decide on turbocharging, nitrous injection, or supercharging build it with forged internals. get some forged pistons (JE, Wiseco, or SRP) and some nice forged rods (Eagle, Crower). you might even want to port and polish the head. as for n/a (normal aspirtation), you will use lightweight pistons to make a higher compression ratio and some nice cams with longer duration and more overlap. however with cams, it is nearly impossible to make maximum power with stock idle and perfect driveability. therefore, there is different profiles or what we call "grinds" to suit your needs. also, port and polished head, 5 angle valve job, valves (skunk2, jun, ferrera), also, you might wanna consider upping the displacement a bit to around 1.8 liters. higher displacement gives you the benefit of gaining more power from additional mods. if you wanna start simple with some basic mods go with the AEM cold air intake, a nice header (mugen, spoon, greddy, 5zigen, apexi, dc etc). and a sweet exhaust system from my favorite mugen (right al). i hope this helped more then it could of confused you. i threw some ideas in there for ya and some possibilities but remember research all of them before making a decision. if you have any question just im me at bserieshatch69 or pm here or email me at highpegsi@aol.com

Yea, I think that I would just pull out the whole thing and put in a B18b engine in there and then later upgrade the head to a vtec, ecu, and whatever else i need. I think I'm going to go with that engine because I am on a budget. As for going with all new internals I think I will wait until I am out of college and also whether I decide on getting a whole new car. Never done a swap before do you think I will have any problems? The only thing I am concerned about is the wiring. I would buy the mounts from hasport unless I find something better.

OK...Depending on what kind of cash you got to spend is what you have to hook this sol up. First off the tranny, its probably a bad syncro or gear, i just had the same problem with mine(it was also leaking from the transaxel). I just got the whole damn thing rebuilt! lots of $$$. Like Bseries said, i'd go with an AEM cai, a nice header(DC)and sweet a$$ exhaust. After you got ur sol all fixed and the i/h/e on, then start worryin about a cam(ZEX) and some other mods. Also, it never hurts to slam ur sol down about 2 inches!

you got ripped off on that tranny man. you easily could have gone to any shop that does engine swaps on hondas and found a tranny for a d16 for nothing or almost nothing. many shops just throw the motors away after the swap is done. you also could have gone to a junkyard and found the tranny you needed there.

ok first, unless you are planning on building up the bottom end, dont do a hybrid motor (ls/vtec) they are notoriously unreliable with the stock bottom end. keep the b16. if its in good shape, dont worry about swapping it. as for the tranny, you can search www.thepartstrader.com (http://www.thepartstrader.com) or in the classifieds of any honda message board for a tranny. any b series hydro tranny (anything but one from a 88-91 b16a or a 90-93integra) will bolt right up. the b18b or ls tranny has the longest gears, meaning that it will be slowest to accelerate, but it will get the best gas mileage and have the highest top speed. the b18c tranny is in the middle, and the b16 has shorter gears. the type r tranny has the shortest, but these are expensive and hard to find. if drag racing or autocrossing is what you want, get a gsr or b16. if you want gas mileage and top speed, get the ls.
