my brother just gave me his '93 honda del sol s. it's completely stock. he also gave me 15" rims by team loco. i just got into this whole import thing. i'd like to make it my hobby and my goal to fix it up and get a lot of power from it. i'm looking into an engine swap right now. can anybody lead me in the right direction as to what i can do for it.

the easiest / cheapest swap is gonna be the B16A (the engine from the 99-00 Si's). that'll be a nice place to start 170hp :) gonna set you back about $2,500 or so for the engine and other parts you need.

no offence to the del sol there but do you think an engine swap is really worth it? your looking at putting a lot of money into this thing to get it to make decent power, i dunno if i were you id put in a system and just drive it for a few years untill you can aford a car with more baseline hp...but hey thats just me, im sure youd rather not wait that long, good luck man ;)

you can get the del sol's running i have seen several in magazines with a b16 and turbo running low 13's high 12's all day long. Not my cup of tea but they do have the possibilities of moving!!

Yea actually its all up to you.. if you plan on keeping the car for a while, then definitely the engine swap is a good idea.. i've seen some pretty good outcomes from teh b16 in the lighter cars. If you like a project then the del sol is one for you. they look wicked done up, and if you invest enough money you can be ripping it up on the streets too..

i thought del sols were pretty heavy???
because there kinda like a convertable so the added more chassis reinforcement??

is this true?? whats the curb weight on one??

hmmmm, i know the mustang verts wieght about 500lbs more than the coupes...its beacuse of some streagthening of the body(not enough for hi-performance driving) and the hydrolic system used to raise and lower the top..and the top itself of course...i dunno about the del sols though, old on let me do some reasearch.....

here it is, the curb wieght of a del sol is 2445 lbs...hmmm, thats not soo bad, kinda heavy for such a little car if you ask me, i dunno, mabey im wrong about it being heavy...it seams like a bit much to me though, especaily considering that a mustang is biger and only wieghs about 500lbs more(coupe anyway, vert is more like 3500) so yeah if wrong please corected me.... ;)

yeah, I think when they make a convertable there's certain parts of the chassis that have to be made from steel where normally might be aluminum. either that or just a lot more metal than if it were a hard top.

yup, suframe conectors and whatnot, verts have a lot of body flex in em, so if you auto cross with one or somthing than you need to add weight in order to get it to handel better....

93 del sol "S" (slow) weighs 2277 lbs. and 2427 with a 150 lb. driver. The del sol is not a comfortable. it is a targa top equipped vehicle. It is so heavy because of the reinforcement of the targa top as well as the rear window that can put up and down via power button. However there there is an exception with the "S" it is so light because for starters in comes with a d15 and also the rear window does not go up and down in the 93 year. This maybe an optional feature in the 93 year. I know of 4 93 "S" that dont have the sliding rear window. If you are spending the money to have the motor installed and your on a tight budget then i would suggest going B16a3 (because it is OBD1) or a gsr out of a 94-95 or an OBD1 jdm motor. If, "money aint a thang," then go with a h22a or h22 type S which comes with 220 bhp beacause of the bump in the compression ratio, and different intake manifold. The type "S" comes with a Blue Valve Cover as well as LSD. I would suggest going to Hondamotorsonline.com or contact osaka motors via IM or AIM osakamotors.
Candymanjl im ashamed of you. you are an administrator and your telling this man that he can get a b16a out of a 99-00 si? a 99-00 si comes with a b16a2 and it is not OBD1. Also the b16a2/3 comes with 160 hp and 111 ft. lbs of torque w/ a 10:2.1 c/r the jdm b16A/1 comes with 170 hp due to the c/r of 10:4.1.
depending on where you go you will spend: just the swap not including mounts and installation:

B16a2 or b16a sir2 (jdm motor):2700 hydraulic tranny
B18c/1: 3300
H22a: 2450. 2700-2800 w/ the lsd tranny
B18a/b aka LS: 1800-2100 (another route much easier swap)(less hp good torque good platform for boost)(b18a i believe has 130hp)
B18C5 aka type R 4800-5400
B16B civic Type R 4400-4800
I would not go ls/vtec its just a little too ghetto of a motor for me. Do it right the first time and you can get Frankenstein like power. It can be done reliable but it recalls for great knowledge and a really good engine builder. Not telling you not to do the swap but beware it can become a disaster 10,000-15,000 miles later.
I hope this helps
