I race in the mini-stock class at the local circle track. Last year I raced a 2.2 Plymouth Turismo and got my ass kicked by a bunch of Hondas.

You can't beat them, join them. So over the winter I'm building up a carburated 86 CRX, same as this years champion.

I'm looking for tuning tips, engine or suspention wise.
Before you all start yelling "ENGINE SWAP" the rules don't allow dual cams or 16 valve engines. It is a STOCK class.
So tell me how to wring as much out of a little 1.5 as I can, and keep it stock,... or at least stock appearing.
The redline is 6500, but I know the champ left the car in second gear and ran it up to 7000 rpms all year long with no problems. Aftermarket valve springs? Or just bulletproof Honda engineering?

Anybody know anything about rejetting carbs? Or maybe some websites with tech help on first generation CRXs.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated to this newbie Honda owner/racer

Just wondering why you choose a 1st Gen Rex ?
so many more doors to open with the 2nd Gen....

The reason I went with the first generation is mostly because it is the same car the champion runs.
Secondly, the rules don't allow for dual cams, or 16 valve engines. As far as I know, the 2nd gen cars are 16 valve (remember I'm new to Hondas).

Also the 1st Gen CRX are a lot lighter. Due the lack of horsepower in this class, handling is at premium.
And finally,.. I got a helluva deal on the CRX that came with a running parts car. (floor rotted out though)

no, actually the 91 hf is a 8 valve, and it is damn light. I think it might be lighter than the 1 gen, but don't quote me on that. it is also easier if you want to do a swap later on in the future after you are done racing, just IMO.

91 HF cant be lighter than the first gen. 1st gens are only like 1700lbs.
