View Full Version : 1998 Honda Accord anti-theft radio code?

I received my 1998 Accord from the dealer last Friday. I find from information on the internet that if my battery cable is disconnected my radio will not work again until I input the unique radio code in some way. I contacted the dealer and they told me I would have to pull the radio to get serial number then they may be able to help me. Is there a way to get this code without this hassle from just using the VIN? Am I getting the run around? I am the second owner of this car so that the code was not provided. Thanks.
Regards,
R.Q.

A few suggestions. Try looking on the trunk for a little white sticker with some numbers on it, the driver side door jam, or the glove box. I think it is a 5 digit code. The dealer should be able to get it with the VIN. Try calling another dealer.

No Honda dealer will do it off the Vin#, thats not how the track the radio codes. You will have to pull the stereo out and get the Serial# and stuff off the deck. Sucks but.......http://www.clubhonda.com/images/ubbicons/shrug.gif

I read in the Haynes Honda Accord 1998-1999 manual for my car that the code is retained if the fuse[no.9 20amp] for the radio is pulled and the battery remains connected. Is this correct?

Well this is the latest information I got from my dealer: Since my car is a 1998 Honda Accord LX not an EX there is no anti-theft radio code necessary to input for my car.Does this sound right to anyone?

Does the deck have a little red blinking light on it? If so...you need a code.

Sound like it. All the anti-theif radios have little red lights on them. So just plug it in and go!
