LoL ! Yea I like my transmission the way it is thank you very much...I let him drive there will be gears all over the track. He doesn't have the patience to drive a manual. If you could imagine that, imagine the 10+ hours to get there he would loose his mind or I would loose mine from the agony he would put me through.

He worse than an infant, but you gotta love'em.

yeah it's 200 miles away from you but not due south on I95 :p I mapquested it and it's 650 miles from my house and you're a little over 700 if I remember right. you're right homestead still be $325, but I get an instructor in my car and four 30 minute sessions. the deal you're talking about is great, it's just 20 hours more driving and about 1,300 more miles of gas and wear and tear round trip :p

hell yeah especially when the instructor alone at the track is over $300 for a weekend. Track entry fees are usually at least another $300. Then about $100 for a night at a hotel. say $30 for two days lunches and drinks all day. All for $325 is a freakin steal!:m16:

oh yeah, add $200 in gas to the cost just for me to get there and back :( plus 1,300 extra miles on my tires. we'll see, I asked them if there's space available still, if it's full then there's no point in worrying about it.

CivicBeater

Car did really good. Impressed alot of people. Had a guy in wrx (who I lapped) compliment me on how fast my car was and how I was hugging the corners. Needless to say that kept me grinning for quite a while.
R compounds are where it's at though. All the pro's I was bitching too about my tires were telling me it's actually better that you do your first event on them, because they will talk to you. Unlike R compounds that hardly make noise and warn you that your getting ready to loose control.
I'll try to make sure I have them for the next event. Amazing following cars with alot less horsepower and r compunds grip through turns that i'm having to back off on.
Car is very well balanced. My downfall was 4 wheel drifts. I found a pretty good tire pressure to start out at after my third session. My tires were actually increasing by 9lbs.

Motul was boiling out there for other guys in our group...

You want to know what is the Brake Fluid champ?!?!

Almighty-Si
10-13-2008, 02:39 PM
Sure R compounds are awesome but it doesn't seem like the sumitomo's were doing all that bad for you. R compounds do show signs of warning just not in the same fashion as a street tire which is probably why it was a good thing to go on them the first time. Next time when you bring R compounds you will know atleast how fast you will be able to go into corners without over driving them and spinning and then you can pick up the pace every lap after until you feel out the limits of the R compounds.

Overheating Motul huh? What were the brake set-ups? You will boil fluid pretty easy on small brakes. What's this fluid you speak of though?

You got to get some pics up ASAP !

S2k with carbontech pads boiled motul.

Castrol SRF is the winaRRRR. Mad expensive, but works.

Once I found the best tire pressure to go with the sumitomo's weren't all that bad. For what they cost I can't complain too much. I really couldn't get alot of sidewall action on them. I'm not too sure what was going on there. I went extremely low to try to get the sidewalls to roll but that equaled a very sloppy set-up and still wasn't getting on the sidewalls as much as I would like

Swing by and pick me up so you can show me some 4 wheel drift

lol...Not something you want to experience when the road gators are freeaking a foot deep! A stiffer suspension would help a little with my "push" because the minor body roll I get helps in the matter.

i'm waiting on the guy with the nasty camera to post his pics. Hopefully better shots of my in the turns!

Almighty-Si
10-13-2008, 11:28 PM
The Sumitomo have a stiff shoulder, probably why you can't get them to roll over to easy. You should get some Nitrogen for the tires, won't heat up as bad as air, will keep tire pressure consistant.

when you change the fluid make sure you're changing all the fluid and not just what's in the reservoir, that's why you need something like the power bleeder. otherwise you'll leave contaminants in the lines and boil the fluid or even if they don't get hot enough to boil you'll loose some pedal feel.

I'm using castrol GT LMA, the dry boiling point is 509 degrees and the wet boiling point is 311 degrees. the castrol SRF has a dry boiling point of 590 and a wet boiling point of 518 which is pretty awesome, but is that worth $60 a liter more? not to me for a weekend racer, especially when you do what you're supposed to do and change the fluid right before the track day the cheap stuff I'm using is almost as good. and to change the fluid out of all the lines with the power bleeder usually takes two liters, that's about $25 with the GT LMA and $150 with the SRF! you're not gonna to that before every event :D the motul 600 has a dry boiling point of 593 and a wet point of 420, I'd bet money that guy who boiled his motul probably didn't change it recently.

looks and sounds like you had a blast! if this weekend wasn't so busy at my job I could have made it up there, oh well, next time  I still might be able to go to the NASA event near me in december, it's a similar setup to the event you went to with the instructor riding along with you.

candymanjl
10-13-2008, 11:50 PM
tire pressures will take a little while to set and your first lap or two when it's set right will feel a little goofy until the tires warm up and the pressures go up to normal.

I boiled ATE
280C/536F (Dry) 204C/400F (Wet)

Which is higher than the GT LMA. I had to bleed my brakes 2 times and needed to a 3rd time after the last session. This all after bleeding them originally to change old stuff out. It's extremely annoying/dangerous consistently losing brakes. I'll pay whatever to not risk losing brakes again. We had 3 liters of superblue that was contstantly getting put in into a couple cars. Still boiling.

hehe I'm going to go into a garage, install de-humidifier, wait till 0% humidity and swap inn SRF!

I wish all of us could of been out there! It was such a great time!

I don't have a full-race inspired suspension so you better believe going in full brakes and taking a turn at 70-100+mph is going to incur some body roll! Plus I am part of the DD crew which was passing alot of track/trailer queens :) I was happy
