after adding the nitrous and then not being able to grip in 2nd gear anymore I decided it was time for some more traction. especially after the highway race where I had to play catch up just because I was spinning 2nd gear. I was looking at drag radials for a little but I still want to handle well for the dragon runs and DR's make the steering really mushy. I also didn't want to just make the front stickier without adding grip in the rear. last time when the car was all out of balance like that the back end would slide out pretty easy, made the 1st trip to the dragon a little scary :D
so I got a set of these coming, Yokohama Advan A048's :D figure it's stock on some porsches and the supercharged lotus exige so they should be grippy :) if these don't grip in the front well then I'll have to just run a drag radial all the time so hopefully these will work.

You roast the tires that bad? I get wheel spin on the top of 2nd on my high boost setting, bit its not too terrible.
Those tires and definitely gangster but running through a set every 6k is going to get rather expensive.

quote from the last guy i knew who owned them:

even with the 200 treadwear Falken's 2nd gear is useless with the nitrous, once you hit 4000rpm the revs go straight to redline. the new tires are 60 treadwear :D so they're about as sticky as it gets before drag radials.
these tires are stock on the lotus exige, I was looking on one of their forums and they're getting 7,000 to 11,000 miles at a time out of the tires on the rear. I should get similar life out of mine on the front and about double that on the rear. at that rate once a year I'll need new fronts and every other year I'll need new rears, that's not bad. part of the short life on Anthony's S2000 was from the camber, the S runs a lot more camber than my crx does.

AH ok...once a year is much better :D

that's what I figured too, once a year is ok. I forgot to mention, tirerack offers heat cycling so I got that too. it's supposed to break in the tires properly and make them last longer, we'll see.

I have a set for Mickey Thompson 3750R ET Street/Drag tires 205/50/15. They grip in every gear when boosting!!

if these don't hold then I'll get those, I wanted to try the better handling tire first so we'll see how they do.

when I ordered my tires I was going to get them heat cycled but the warehouse that had the heat cycling equipment was out of stock and I didn't want to wait 8-12 weeks. kinda gay they wouldn't send the tires to the warehouse, heat cycle them, then send them to me but I know it would have been a lot of shipping.
but I did find that doing something as simple as driving on them for a while then letting them sit for a while would add a lot of life to them, might help your MT street tires too. it's talking about hoosier tires but applies to all soft competition tires...

It makes sense but to get those tires up to that kind of temprature is going to attract a lot of attention :D

I haven't tried to intentionally spin the tires, but I think I'd really have to bring them rpm's way up and then worry about snapping a drive shaft or something in the trans!! lol

I'm just gonna go on the highway up to a decent speed to get them heated up then let them sit for a little, that's the best I can do for now. next set I'll get them heat cycled and then I'll be able to see first hand if there's a difference.

these tires own! nice and sticky, I just gotta finish breaking them in and get the pressure set where they're happy on the street :)

well these tires actually hold when I spray the nitrous in 2nd! first time I've felt 2nd gear with the spray without just spinning from 4000 rpm up :)

tonight there were a few other guys out speeding around so I got a little frisky with the crx :D I went to go after this EVO but he busted a quick U-turn when I got near him, guess he got skeered :D then I messed with a ITR wannabe teg just for the heck of it but he didn't really bite.
so I started to head back home and ended up at a light with no traffic in site so I decided to see how the new tires do from a dig. these things are awesome! first gear I spun a little and just got harder and harder onto the throttle until I was almost at full throttle before having to shift, never done that before! then went to 2nd gear with the spray and it held like a champ! barked 3rd a little then let off. so I'm pretty excited to try these at moroso when they reopen  with the old 200 treadwear tires my 60' times were around 2.5, with these tires I'd guess I'm down around 2.1, I'll have to bust out the g-tech and see what the difference looks like.

I'm coming in late on this... I still haven't decided on tires for my new 16's...
The tires you choose are sweet but the don't make the size i'm looking for... may look at the parada spec-2's... or BFG's

yeah 16's are kind of a redheaded stepchild when it comes to tire options. the only other "street" tire I know of that's like the A048's are the Michelin Pilot Sport Cups. they make a 205-55-16 and a 225-50-16 but I don't know if those will work for you, you probably need a 45 profile.

Sumitomo htrz II ! I swear they should make me a spokesman :D I just love them. On my low boost setting I get some spin on the top of 1st but it holds every gear after that (LSD is installed) on my high boost setting I get a little spin on the top of second but its not that roasting kind of spin, its that barely breaking traction type of slip.
With the type of power you will putting down after the build though its going to be hard to hook up a lot of tires. :D
