this will show my progress through the install and tune. this is the stage one tuning positive displacement supercharger setup exclusively distributed by static X motorsports. robert i beleive owns the joint, and mark works with them. to date my experiences with them has been stellar. so helpful, so informative, and very patient with all my questsions. i highly reccomend them based on my experiences to date: ok on to the stuff.
first, i wanted to show everyone the few parts that came in so far!

real men leave room for improvement ;) ok actually 550's are at 80% with 330-350rwhp. since i should be somewhere around there, figured get 650s, and if i wanna up the boost theres room.

Did you order the upgraded pulley yet? :D
What did you pay for the 650's? I was thinking about getting those but I got a good deal on the 750's, but now I am wodering if it was just a mistake cause the 750's were actually cheaper than the 650's.

paid 340 shipped for the 650 rc's. 750's mean you can make mo powa if you want! just kinda annoying to tune idle and part throttle.

Yea see, I got the 750's for $325 shipped. A lot of the places I saw had the 650's costing more than the 750's, wonder why that is....hhhmmm, now I have to compare them.
Tuning idle and part throttle shouldn't be a problem with good software. There are guys running 1000cc's with "like stock" idles so, we shouldn't have any problems with 6 and 750's.

with that much fuel on the larger injectors getting a steady idle takes a while unless you just cheat and raise the idle or don't care what AF ratio it's at.

Well we'll see soon enough, think I am putting the injectors in on Saturday.

Well we'll see soon enough, think I am putting the injectors in on Saturday.
it's funny, with 8 bit resolution on the fuel right now if I go rich one step at idle I'll go from 14.7:1 to 13.0:1, go lean one step and I'll go from 14.7:1 to 15.5:1. and it'll vary as the car heats up, if the a/c is on or off, voltage, etc. idle exposes so many issues and usually you'll get multiple things effecting voltage at the same time. I've spent the same or more time tuning idle as anything else. part of that is I've got an older car and I think I need to replace my IAC valve, but still, lots of variables. that's why the AEM has a couple of pages of settings to help tweak idle.
Almighty-Si
08-21-2008, 01:00 AM
Adjusting for variations in voltage is easy, just have to adjust the battery offset tables and just turn stuff on and adjust the cels at the voltage. I got my voltage down to 11 turning everything on...LoL...rear defogger, heat, lights. Temp is ECT/IAT compensation, but it's a little harder since you have to wait until the car completely cools so you can see the effects of your adjustments and make new ones. I have auto update so, when I make an adjustment on a cell it uploads when I make it, so I can make 2-3 adjustments before it jumps to the next cell. It's a bit of a pain but with my 450's I actually got it done pretty easily, took 2 tries to get everything right.

good news, after 26 rage against the machine songs, the F'N walbro pump is in. i have learned a few things doing a pump swap on a s2k.
1. i dont thikn i will ever do this for a friend :(
2. that was the most awkward position i have ever been in.
3. i used my chin as a brace when leaning in from behind the car
4. did i mention that was awkward?
5. over all the time involved is only about 1.5 to 2 hours, but the most annoying time evar!
thankfully, the bad boy works. post impressions, well its a pump, and its pumping, so i am happy :) it makes a bit of a whine, but every walbro i have ever had did, so whatever.
next up is the injectors, fpr, and hondata intake mani gasket :)
pretty soon i will be recieving the intercooler setup. well the heat exchanger, fan, pump, and core. i am very looking forward to this :)

another update, just decided today to do the clutch. gonna go with ap1 flywheel and clutchmasters stage 3 disc and pressure plate. should order this week, and have installed in a few weeks. work has been brutal and busy. just havent had time to mess with the car. but over the weekend was dreiving spiritedly and clutch slip with each quick shift. its only gonna get worse and then i will have to uninstall more stuff to swap the clutch. so smart money is on doing it now. glad i have the honda bible, so the clutch install shouldnt be too bad. might pick up a cheap tranny jack to make it easier. heck, a reason to buy more tools :)

i remember when he told me about this. i was on a vw board at the time, and we were talking about s2k launching. i told them my buddy had driven an ap1 and the best launch on the street was rev to 9k and sidestep the clutch. they laughed and said i could never drive any of theres if they got one. ROFL. with the ap2. slipping the clutch at 5-6k works really well. any more and you ruin the clutch. side step it to many times and you destroy the diff. :(

just finished wiring up the injectors. fired up and got the idle decent. whoop whoop!!!! its funny how sensitive the adjustments are at idle. i was adding fuel 1% at a time. so first i add 1%. then i add 1 more. looking good. sitting right at 15.5:1. hmm, wonder what will happen if i add 5% all at once. bam, flooded nearly stalls ROFL. got it right around 15:1. idle, just trying to get it to sit rock solid.

kit arrived today. i am halway thru clutch install. the only pita so far is the upper starter bolt. holy cow its hiding!
heres some pics of what arrived. three big boxes came. one had the blower in it. the other two had such attention to detail. each system for the kit is in its own box. properly labeled, and easily cross referenced in teh manual. i have read horror stories of other FI kits coming in one giant box, with no inventory list whatsoever. these boys get a huge A+ from me :)
mine is the youtune kit with 6# and 8# crank pullies.

Glad to see things coming along. You wanna break in the clutch a little sooner take it out to the busy part of town a drive it around. I usually take a ride into Manhattan after a clutch install. With all the traffic there it goes through so many heat cycles it's usually good after about 100 miles...LoL...did it like that 3 times and worked out for me great.
Forget putting miles on it, just get out there and get crackin on that install ! You know this is the most anxious I have been to hear a bitch whine :D

yeah, things were hauling ass on the install until we were reminded that this is only the 10th prototype kit and we're Beta users :D actually it's not a bad install at all, they did a good job on the kit considering how much has to be custom. we just ran into a couple of things that kept us from finishing last night, they should be overnighting us the couple of parts we need to get it finished up tomorrow
today we'll mount the battery, wire the heat exchanger fan and IC water pump, and run the intercooler hoses. then when the parts come in tomorrow we'll be ready to rock after about 5 minutes :D

That intake is mad JdM y0 !
The setup is interesting, thought it was more like Rich's setup. Its cool the way they mounted it but right over the header? Also the intake worries me a bit, being so close to the header on the highway at speed its going to be sucking in some serious hot air, kindda like mine. I think its part of the reason for my overheating on my last trip. I wish I would have datalogged sometime while we were on the highway to get a reading on the IAT's but my filter sitting right next to the header when it was running 1350 degrees couldn't have been good for IAT's or cooling.
Does that pipe shrink as it passes through the cooler?
What's cool though is you could still change your intake manifold and TB if you want to. Can't wait to see this thing !

While yes it is sucking in a bit of hot air back there and some efficiency could be gained by relocating the filter to a different place the gains are negligible.
I have looked at multiple ways to move the filter forwarded so it would get air from behind the passengers head light. There is just no room to route the filter forward with out going under the blower and routing the intake very close to the header.
The critical thing regardless of where the intake is placed in this setup, is proper intercooling.
Once the Eaton TVS becomes readily available there may be a version 2 of this kit with a jack shaft setup and the intake on the front. But that would not happen for years down the road. The TVS units are smaller in foot print allowing some different setup possibilities.
Right now you got to buy a huge number of TVS units to even get a good price on them.

I can see how trying to get the filter away from where it is, is a challenge, there aren't many options there but you have to wonder if on the highway at a sustained 75-80mph what the EGT's are going to be like and what the IAT's will look like while at speed. Proper intercooling is great but if you are ingesting 1300 degree air, even passing through a very efficient intercooler still has to leave high IAT temps. Have you ever logged EGT and IAT on the highway at an 75mph stretch of a half hour or so?
Again I could be wrong and it's probably something I experienced last year with my filter location as well, which makes me wish I had logged some on my trip to see what was going on.
mugenrios2k
12-02-2008, 08:22 PM
Yes I have logged IAT while Road Racing Steady State (after 20 mins of constant hammering on the car.) temps averaged 15 and never went over 17deg F above ambient.
that’s ambient not the IAT at the filter
And EGTs never went above 820C
For Reference I was seeing EGT in the 850C range before going FI.
And IATs about 20 to 25F above ambient.

11.0:1 is a good starting point until you get on the dyno.
What supercharger setup did you have that was happy at 11.0:1
Intercooled, MP??, at what boost level, and max Supercharger RPM.
I am guessing it was a JR supercharger on a SI which mean that yes 11.0:1 was warented to keep IAT/EGTs in check.
Max safe power on the SOT should be around 11.8 to 12.1 since IATs are so close to ambient. Most of the Miata guys I know run in the 12.5-12.7 AF with the MP62 with A2A and 12psi.

when I say 11.0:1 that's at the wideband on the header, not the wideband on the tailpipe which would read about 11.5:1 on my car. the S2000 on the dyno was almost a full point leaner on the sniffer compared to the AEM sensor. yeah my kit is a Jackson Racing kit on my B18C CRX but it's intercooled with LHT's intercooler, on the dyno the highest it got was 20 degrees over ambient on 9.5psi. we dyno'd it richer and leaner and kept going back to 11.0:1 for the most power.
if people are getting the max safe power with 11.8-12.1 based on what the dyno sniffer says then that's right about 11.0:1 on the wideband on the header. the guys running 12.5-12.7 based on the sniffer would be around 11.5-12.0 at the header's wideband, we'll keep that in mind too for when we're tuning. I go by AEM's sensor on the header since it's going to be more accurate and faster reacting than the sniffer all the way at the back and the AEM sensor is always on the car. this way we can setup the O2 feedback to keep an eye on things.

ngk iridiums 1 step colder then stock. this is not needed for 6-7# but i want to run 8-9 eventually.

You should get a set of 2 step colder plugs as well and give those a shot. I picked up a lot going from 1 step colder to 3 step colder plugs. Though I think they were too cold for my setup I did pick up about 10-15whp. I tuned on the 1 step colder plug until it wouldn't make anymore power and then swapped in the 3 step colder plugs I was able to pull some fuel and add 2 degree of timing.
Not sure if plug type matters much but I can get you the part numbers if you wanna give it a shot. 10-15whp might not seem like a big deal but for a $16 buck plug change its a nice gain.

actually the base tune we built was more or less where we ended up 20 or so runs later. we played with leaning it out, with richening it, then adding timing, then taking away timing. we always either lost power or ended up back where we started. nothing effected that dip in a significant way, it's probably got more to do with the stock exhaust than anything. what's funny is that on the road you don't feel that dip at all.

actually the base tune we built was more or less where we ended up 20 or so runs later. we played with leaning it out, with richening it, then adding timing, then taking away timing. we always either lost power or ended up back where we started. nothing effected that dip in a significant way, it's probably got more to do with the stock exhaust than anything. what's funny is that on the road you don't feel that dip at all.
Yea probably exhaust if timing didn't do anything to the powerband. I wonder how that exhaust will affect the power on the next pulley.
Did you get to play with the plugs at all?

I know how he's feeling about his exhaust though. I'm liking mine cause of how quiet it is but I know I would make more power if I swapped it with a 3inch but then who knows what its gonna sound like.
If he can find something he likes and that he can bare with then why not but the bunch of exhausts I've heard for the S2000's are pretty damn loud.
Oh and when the hell you going to make it back to the dyno? I wanna see the improvement with the boost leak fixed !

ehh, i dont know. the upped pulley even on my stock exhuast will still produce gains. might just throw it on eitherway. i know my sweet spot for AF. i am shopping for exhuasts, but need to pick one first, then find best price new/used for it.
gonna take some time.
in the meantime, i compared my dyno numbers to kraftwerks 5psi kit and vortech 7psi kit. sxm roots blower FTW!

Yeah but freaking upgrading my exhaust did wonders!!! I always thought I would just do without because of sound/looks of my old one. Which was uber sexy if I might add. I really kicked myself hard in the nuts after I went to 70mm for even debating the issue. My car now pulls a lot better and more importantly runs sooo much smoother. It will free up alot of power.
Couple weeks I go back on the dyno :)

lol it doesn't have to be that loud. I mean my skank 2 can be pretty loud at WOT but damn. You gotta pay to play! Well I'll let it be, I'm trying to help the guy out a little so when I spank him it's not AS bad. Oh well.

One step colder plugs is all you need at this boost level.
However power could possible be gained if 2 step colder plug was used and more timing was added in.
Did you guys have an egt probe?
Retarding the timing to much can also cause a spike in EGT temps.
However where you guys are at now (1 deg per lbs) is in the normal range.
The stock exhaust is causing some back pressure so it slowing down the exhaust gas which is possibly causing more heat to be transferred to the head/block which would explain why you did not gain any power when adding timing back in.

I kept it simple there is a very complicated when it comes to the effect of exhaust systems on over all power output.
An exhaust does a lot more then just give a path for exhaust gasses to come out of a motor
Exhaust velocity,
backpressure
exhaust scavenging
Turbulence,
Heat transfer to the head/block due to slow, turbulent exhaust gasses
Pumping losses.
The list goes on and on.

By fat, I really hope you are referring to car weight.
And at that, I would like to see where you get 500lbs from.
Si
Curb Weight: 2895 lbs.
WRX (they do not have the proper weight for the TR. Although most are sub 3100)
Curb Weight: 3192 lbs.
I don't have any NEW numbers, but my old numbers on the old turbo were 240whp/290wtq on a mustang dyno. That's around what you're making, no?

lol, yeah it's like $1,770, they're all expensive for the S2000, just about anything that actually gains power is over $1,000 :( by the time Ant gets the oval tips on the other exhaust this is only a little more ("little" being relative :) )
its light but would not help get you any more power.
I believe the dim is the same as stock
they sell a 60mm and a 70mm. 60mm is only 3mm over stock, I really doubt that does anything, 70mm should gain power though. the one camuman is looking at is 3" (76.2mm) until the rear when it splits to daul 2.5" (63.5mm), that probably flows more than this with 70mm (2.75") the whole way. this is just cool because of the weight savings, less weight = more speed :D

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObLnO_thkCA
I am almost certain you can modify a AP1 exhaust to fit no? If so:
http://www.meganracing.com/products/product_detail.asp?prodid=899&catid=102
Under $700 SHIPPED:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Megan-Catback-OE-RS-Dual-Exhaust-Honda-S2000-00-05-2-5_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7 c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1 Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem35 0138416361QQitemZ350138416361QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fT ruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
Or, if you wanted to actually make power and take all those useless bends and dual exhaust spliting off at 90 degrees out of the equation you get this:
http://www.meganracing.com/products/product_detail.asp?prodid=629&catid=90
Under $400 and you can add another resonator in there to quit it down to grandpa levels.
Like I said, spending that much on piping is just stupid.
