im lookin in to gettin a s2k soon and was wondering what years should i stay away from and what to look for to finding a good s2k.

if I was getting an S2000 I would only look at the 04-05's. those are the 2.2L motor versions and before they went to drive by wire. plus right now they're priced pretty good and you can get the AEM EMS for them. so when you go boost you're all set :D

sweet thanks...... ive also herd that on the oldest s2k's the rear end tends to break more often or somthing like that?

well, all S2's have trouble with the rear diff once there's a lot of power. even then some guys have managed to break rear ends with stock power, it's just not a good design. the AP2 S2000's (the 2.2L ones) use a stronger material for the tranny and rear diff parts, but it's still a problem.

the good side is that the motor is pretty strong. there's lots of guys with stock bottom ends making 400whp. if you get a head spacer that'll drop the compression to about 8.8:1 and you're good for even more power.

yeah i am biased and push for ap2's also. you can get an ap1 prolly real cheap, but i would immediately put an ap2 tranny in it, and then if its a 00-01 i would also toss either an aem ems, vafc and tune it or 02-03 oem ecu to correct the overly rich program in it. stock 00-01 run like 10something up top :(

so i could just find a 04-05 trans and it would fit rite up to the 00-01 engine jus perfect? and couldnt i just get a good ems and have them fix the overly rich top end without getting the 04-05 ecu..... and is it as easy to swap the ecu's between those years, like unplug one and jus plug in the other orrrrrr?

if you pop in an 02-03 ecu it will work fine. only thing to mess with is the reprogram of the key to ecu connection. otherwise, your golden and car will pick up near 20whp up top. tranny bolts right up. :) and the 04-05 tranny makes the ap1 feel faster, becuase gearing is overall shorter :)
