$695 shipped from www.onlinecarstereo.com plus another $38 for the iPod adapter which I'd have to get. between the internal 24 gig hard drive and my 80 gig iPod I'd have almost all of my music in the car :D

hmm that's pimp. I might have to pick that up for my jeep in a week or two. Buying new a/t tires owns me this week! lol

So does that 695 come with the antenna or whatever you need for the navigation/gps to work? Yeah I would need the ipod adapter. My main reason for upgrading along with the gps.

It's got alot of cool features but the screen is too small to really read anything with the nav map on. I mean if you're using it for directions you can always just listen to the directions but every once in a while if there is traffic I will use the map to plot my way around it, which is where having the larger screen comes in handy.

That and it being a JVC would have me worried. Just never had luck with anything they made and a few friends not having much luck with their car audio.

ok, I just ordered the radio with ipod adapter and a JL 10W6V2  hopefully tuesday or wednesday of next week it'll be here. now I've at least got a whole system in time for the trip and with my 80 gig ipod full already I'll have plenty of music to jam to!

yeah eric the $695 is everything as far as the gps, add the iPood adapter and it's all set.

al, the JVC thing does scare me a little but a buddy of mine with his S2000 had the older verion that didn't have GPS and it was cool and didn't give him any issues. granted the screen is little but I think it'll be ok and the big fold out screens all break over time. since this face isn't a fold out that's one less thing to worry about. plus a fold out would get in the way of my a/c controls so it would be better to watch but annoying at the same time.

mainly I got it to play dvd's and even with the smaller screen watching dvd's is still pretty cool, the gps stuff is just an extra toy :) the internal hard drive space is pretty cool too, gotta load in a bunch of race videos before the meet :D

the radio came in the mail yesterday and it looks pimp, I like it. the screen is good size, nothing like a 7" fold out but 3.5" is pretty good. the JL Audio 10W6V2 came in too, the iPod adapter is on backorder though :( as long as it comes in before too long it's not that big a deal. tonight I'm going to get the head unit in and set up all the navi stuff. if that goes quick then I'll put in the sub and add the second amp for the sub.

that'll be it as far as stereo stuff, I might add XM but with a ton of music in the car already it might not be worth the extra money for the add-on piece and the subscription. the only thing the radio doesn't have that bums me a little is HD radio, it would have been cool to see what's out there. I might get the rear view camera just because it's cool :) found a licence plate frame camera for a little over $100. it's just another toy, the radio can be set to automatically switch to the rear view when you go into reverse

I'll post a picture of the setup when it's done, I'll have to find a nice creative way to mount the amps but for now they might just sit on the trunk floor :)

BALLA! Sounds pretty pimp. I'm really interested in checking it out. :)
What are you going to power that w6 with?

I've got a 100watt x 2 channel Infinity amp for the front components and another inifinity from the same series but it's 1000 watts mono for the sub. since one 10W6 is either 8 ohm or 2 ohm and I can't run this amp mono less than 4 ohm, I'll have to run it 8 ohm. the amp will probably be pushing around 500-600 watts instead of 1000 watts which is perfect for one sub anyway. if I decide I need more boom boom I'll just add a 2nd sub and the amp will see 4 ohm which would be just right.

I'm looking for the rear view cam for my set-up too but I think I will hold off on that until after the meet. I still have to build up my trunk before the meet but that shouldn't take me too long. I can't imagine taking that long of a trip running on mids and high with no subs.

I wouldn't worry about the running the W6 on 500watts...it should hit nice and hard.

he he, no subs and no iPod for the trip was my motivation to get everything too :)

I got the head unit in last night and the couple of fears I had were put to rest. for the display to show the video while playing a dvd and to put in a destination for the gps they want you to be stopped for obvious reasons :) for this they want you to send a wire to the ebrake so the ebrake has to be on to show video. just grounding that wire all the time allows video to always be able to show :D now what pioneer does is use the GPS to know if you're moving or not so you still get screwed, fortunately JVC doesn't do that! all they do is show a warning every time you turn on the head unit which is fine with me. so I've got fully functioning navi that works really well, plus I can watch videos without being at a stop.

I really like the head unit, navigating and finding everything in the menu could be a little better but it does so much I don't know how much simpler it could really be, I just have to get used to it and memorize the buttons. the screen is plenty bright, even during the day it's readable, I had to set it to dim at night because it was a little too much :) I also like that it doesn't have a seperate "brain", everything is in the standard size head unit. my car wasn't an issue but if you don't have enough space behind the head unit for all the wires then you might not be able to use this. I would definately recommend this to anyone wanting video without a fold out screen, it just does so much in a little package. tonight I'll play around with loading some stuff onto it's internal hard drive. I'll probably just load in a bunch of videos since all my music will be on the ipod.

tonight I'll mess with the sub. I already have a sealed box, I just need to check the demensions and see if it's got the right volume. I love the JL 10's because they only need a little box, .75 cu ft :) to wire up the sub amp all I need to do is run the positive cable which isn't too bad in my car. I ran the RCAs and remote already, and there's already a good grounding spot in the trunk so in theory it won't take too long. the head unit has a crossover built in plus EQ and level control for each output so I should be able to tweak the system how I want it.

one day I'll probably add the camera because it's not that much and it's cool :) you can set the head unit to automatically display the rear view when you go into reverse which I already wired up

having 5.1 would be cool too, there's an optical digital output that can go into a decoder. once you have that you get the extra channels for full 5.1. that's one down side with this unit is that all that isn't built in, on the kenwood I was looking at that was all internal, but that was a fold out and about $400 more. what I gotta play with it to check and see if it treats the rear speakers like rear surround speakers. if it does that internally and I just don't have a seperate front center channel I'd be happy with that.

sorry for the long post, I just love car AV :D

wired up the second amp and added the sub tonight. the install went pretty well if you don't count a couple of screws that the heads stripped while installing the sub in the box. I had to drill out those bastards and get new screws in there, pain in the butt.

but the big daddy amp is in and for just one 10" sub it's pretty rockin! I tried a few different things from bass music to dave mathews and it's pretty nice. I've got plenty of real low end kick but it's not sloppy, over the next few days I'll play with it some more. I've also got RTA software and a calibrated microphone that we use at work which I'll probably snag and bring home, see what the system is really doing :)
