Would it be worthwhile to swap from a 2.3L h22a head to a h22a 2.2l head? Have a friend w/a 93 Si non vtec DOHC, and basically we're wondering if it's worthwhile and what you'd need for the swap?

yea that would be a good swap, very similar to the ls/vtec and crvtec swaps on b series. it should be pretty straightforward, but some machine shop work will need to be done. as far as i know it should be about the exact same procedure as an ls/vtec, but if there are any experts who have this swap it would be good to hear your input.

well on a lsvtec, theres an oil line that needs to be plugged, and an oil passage for the vtec needs to be made. i have also heard a lot of head swaps need the head to be milled, as it doesnt perfectly fit on the block.

"to swap from a 2.3L h22a head to a h22a 2.2l head" ???????

Do you mean to swap from 2.3L H23A non vtec head to a 2.3L H22A vtec head? If that's what you ment then here is what you have to do:

The H22A vtec head bolts right on the H23 block. All you have to do to take care of the oil pressure is to remove an oil restrictor located on top of the engine block (it's a little orffice that pops right out). The head gasket has its own restrictor in it to provide the right oil pressure to the head. There is no machining required (at least on H series engines). You will have to replace all timing belt driven components and a timing belt. You will need both intake and exhaust manifolds and a thermostat housing. For the vtec to operate propertly you will also need a vtec ECU or a vtec cotroller. That's all I can think of, I'm sure that's not all but I think you get the idea.

there was a 2.3 liter VTEC motor put out in the jap. accord wagon sir-t's, but i think cullude was just mistaken in his typing. The H22/H23 frankenstein is much easier to do than the normal LS/VTEC, but it is also much more prone to dying. It's not worth the effort; take the money and rebuild and turbo the H23.

Who needs VTEC when you got torque?!

cullude was not mistaken. he was just quoting the original author of this thread. everything he said is basically correct. however. you still need to add the oil squirters.but the good thing is. the h23 blocks has them in there. and like he said you jsut need to unplug them. just remember to replace everything that touches the timing belt with it's h22 counter part. including the timing belt itself.and also. dont' rev it too high. the h23 cranks are prone to breaking/throwing rod's/spun bearings. etc.

just for reference there is an h23 vtec like said before. it is in an accord wagon.

The H23 does not have the oil squirters; the block is the same, but the oil squirters are a bolt-in piece, just like the crank, rods, pistons, cams, etc....you must buy them separately to install them

i was referring to the holes being there. but plugged up. the oil squirters you have to buy and install. but that is it.
