Are pullies such as AEM, unorthodox really worth it. I was having a discussion with a guy at my job and he thinks they make signifigant HP increases while i disagree.. WHat d oyou guys think?

I think they give you about 5 honest horsepower, but I have had friends that hate them because they got a sound system and since the alternator turning so slow they have real bad dimming lights and shit.

pulllies will give you NO hp gains. What they will do however is free up hp thats drained my your accessories. its gonna be a mod that you'll feel. i think its def worth doing, unless of course you have a big stereo system or somthing, then i wouldnt recomend it cuz of what SPOOLEDCRXB18 said. good luck dude;)

I wouldn't get them for the alternator reason, my lights dim a little at idle now, that would just make things worse.
but on my buddy's 92 teg gs auto, I used to beat him when I had my accord manual, but after he got pulleys, he'd pull on me, so in that case it made a difference. but I doubt it was more than a few hp, since we ran close before that.

You dont have to take my advice but man if you dont have a sound system and you want to gain a few horses go for it. remember every little bit helps cause for about 5 little bits you get one big boost. it all adds up and it depends on money to i should know that. not saying you get a big boost its just that you take 5 horses and 5 and 5,5,5 thats 25 horses.you can start a ranch

ughh....pullies do NOT give you any new hp, the only free up existing hp drained by your accessories...personaly i kinda agree with what the kid is saying, every little bit helps;)

the pullies will free up some hp that the car's acessories are sucking up, but they will cause damage after time, they dont have the vibration dampening that the stock pullies have. so after awhile, buh bye engine

They AEM pullies are worth it, but find them cheap. I've had them for about 2 years and I noticed a difference on the buttdyno. As far as the harmonic balancer idea: That really only pertains to the crank pulley, which AEM doesn't make. Unorthodox makes a crank pulley that has no harmonic balencer. As time goes on the vibrations caused by rotation in the engine will cause the engine to "DIE". But for those who want a lightend crank pulley either buy the Civic Type R crank pulley "Only has a space for the alternator belt". Or have a shop machine off the PS and AC grooves on the pulley. HTH

I dont care for the pullies either, had em on my old 98 prelude, might have freed up 1-2 HP but that sure isnt worth the price tag of the parts nor the install
