I wonder if that is some kinda same egine i've got, mine is d16z5, twin cam soch egine, only mine is an older model like 89. Anyways i am plannin on buildin turbo's on it and it is quite fast as it is quite capable if it is the same engine though??? oru can go with a swap, like a b16 engine with vtec.

i dont see how your SOHC can be a twin cam when SOHC stand for Single overhead cam ;)

this doesn't need to turn into an argument about cams. i know that mine is a single overhead cam, but as for the other guy, who knows? all i want to know is whether it would be better to put money into this engine, or whether i should save my money for a swap.

do a b20turbo
you can get a b20 for alot cheaper than a b16 but the only down side, is that it won't have vtec, but who needs vtec when you have boost

i was thinking more along the lines of the b18c1 IF i was going to do a swap. i know that the b20 is a whole lot cheaper, but the options for tuning the b18 are nearly unlimited, while the b20 is an SUV engine. i would still like some ideas on tuning the d16 if there are any.

I have a d16z motor in my '09 si hatch and im not wasting my money on it at all. I just threw a filter on for the intake noise thats all. I seen a guy here with a fully built d16 engine and boost running low 13's on it, but for me if i put pistons ,rods and boost i wanna run quicker than just 13's. For that get a b series motor slap a turob kit on that and ill run high 13's :) so for me im going towards a swap.
Moggboy: that looks like a integra motor not a civic motor.

i have a '98 civic coupe and i have the D16y8 SOHC Vtec engine. I dont think it has a lot of potential, which is why I am swapping in a B18c1 and putting turbo on it as soon as i can.

Well it depends on your long term power goals. If you're looking to make 300 maybe 350 you can go with single cam, but it will take more money than if you did it on a b-series motor, but it can be done.If you are looking to make a crazy motor then I would definetly advise a swap. But there is some potential for the d16 motors.

the b18c1 is an integra gsr engine, but you can swap it into a civic with no problem. people do it all the time, they even put the b18c5 ITR engine in civics.

2000Civic21: i know it can be swapped into civics, what i was trying to say is moggboy said
quote:
my engine are an doch engine d16z5 and here is a pic of it. [/quote] the pic is not of a d16 motor but of an integra motor. I just think we are all talking about different things here, but the pic is not of a d16 thats all i was trying to say.

The engine IS in fact an D16 engine, i have a closeup pic of the engine code on if you do not belive me, but i think someone told me that this engine is not normal too see in the U.S., it is some sort of JDM/ZC engine mix typa thingie!!!????, atleast that is what i think i understod, that is why i am going too build turbo's on it.
here's the pic anyway

Hey just to clear it up, Moggboy's motor is a ZC no an LS Integra,it is essentially a d16 motor with a twin cam head. They are standard in europe and japan and had a version of them in the 88-91 US Integra.
