i dont know a whole lot about engines so can someone tell me first what bore and stroke is and how it affects performance? Ive heard people say that the B20 does not have a bore and stroke conducive to high rpm performance? I was also told that the B18B block is a better engine to run FI than the C1 or the C5 why is that the case?

bore is the width of the piston, stroke is the distance the piston travels up and down. the crankshaft determines the amount of stroke.
the B16a B18C share the same bore, only the stroke is longer on the B18C and gives the B18C the extra torque.
generally speaking, the engine with a shorter stroke will rev higher easier since there's less weight rotating. and generally the engine with more stroke will give more low end power (torque) but not be able to rev as high. both can create a lot of power, but everything being the same, the motor with less displacement will have to rev higher to flow the same amount of air (to get the same HP).

if the pistons in the B16 and the B18 are the same then where does the difference in displacement come from? do the B18B1 C1 and C5 all have the same stroke?

the difference in displacement from the B16A to the B18C1 comes from a longer stroke, they both have the same bore.
the B18B and B20 (I'm pretty sure) have a slightly bigger bore, like 1 or 2 mm. but the B20 (CRV) has a much longer stroke, making it 2.0L

YEA CANDY MAN IS EXACTLY RIGHT A B16 HAS A STROKE OF 3.0 AND A B18 HAS A 3.5" THATS WHERE THE EXTRA DISPLACEMENT COMES FROM.

B18B has the same bore as the B18C1, and B18C5. just that the B18B has a tad longer stroke. but i'm sure you know that already ;)

so the B18B has a longer stroke than the other B18's interesting, so if i were to mate a B16 head to a B20 block would i be able to easily hit atleast 6500rpm?

yeah, the guys I see with the B20 VTEC motors rev to 8k no prob. think you gotta swap some parts, like the oil pump and some other little stuff to be sure it's gonna last.

screw hybrids lol ill probably just end up going with a B18C since it seems to be the best overall B series engine and with a T25 turbo low end torque wont even be an issue
