yes im pretty sure both will fit, but the H22 will weigh your car down sooo much in the front, dont expect to very hard fast turns.
IMO, the B18 has more potential but thats just me...id say go with the B18, it will fit better too.

i disagree, yes it does weigh more but where the weight is you want it. You want all the weight on your front tires!! The h22a if boosted has more displacement for pushing air via a turbocharger or turbo charger. It prob would be very very tight to fit a h22 along with boost but on a one on one basis i say go for the h22a

I personally would go for the H22A swap, but it would be a harder swap with more potential for problems (I always here about people breaking axles).
if you want a easy swap, go for the "B" series swap, if you don't mind tha extra work, and probably losing a/c, then go for the H22A.

I'd use a H22 if I was building my "drag only" civic hatch right now. That motor is just a beautiful thing. But yes it is a tight fit, but that why the word "custom" was invented :D
Hell in that case....rip out the inside of my car, custom built tranny, F20 (S2000 motor) custom rear axle, a little boost.....hmmmm the ideas are swimming http://www.clubhonda.com/images/ubbicons/ponder.gif

the h22 in a 1989 civic will have to be special and what i mean by that is the mounts will more then likely have to be place racing and it will have to be a weld in application...the firewall might have to be cut....um i know you can use an accord inter. with 90 integra axles....adn as far as weight goes it wieghs 80lbs more then a b-series...
try it...im goin to do it in a crx

i would go with the h22 if i had the money cause its different i mean how many people do you hear let alone see with an h22a 89 civic ;)

its a great thing that the motor is putting weights on the front tires, but its bad that in that civic, there is almost no weight in the back so your weight distribution is like 90/10 :p. a/c can be kept with relocating the a/c compressor. personally, i would get an h22 because of the torque and the potential it has. plus you can get the block cheaper than the B18C1.

if he wants power, go for a CRV block. the b20 is probably the torquiest(sp?) engine that Honda makes. i say that w/ pride ;) . then he can slap some Vtec from a GSR/Type R and that could be up to 242 to the ground; w/ proper tuning of course. but if it were me, I'd do a crvtec.. +/-220hp+drag turbo=300monster horses. and that would come out to be a smaller displacement than H22a therefore meaning he still may have room for A/C :D

u can keep A/C with an h22. you just gotta relocate the a/c compressor. as for torque, i think the RSX Type S has the flattest torque curve. about 125ft. lbs of torque through out the revband. now only if i could find the dyno sheet for it.
i dunno about the B20+Vtec head...i would definietly upgrade the rods for sure, cuz they are bound to snap with the jacked up rod to stroke ratio. :(
